![]() A careful inspection of the particles of the air (represented by dots) reveal that the air molecules are nudged rightward and then move back leftward to their original position. There is another important characteristic of waves depicted in the animation above. This is what makes a sound wave a longitudinal wave. The air molecules are vibrating about a fixed position from left to right and from right to left. In the animation above, the energy is shown traveling outward from the tuning fork - from left to right. In a longitudinal wave, particles of the medium vibrate back and forth in a direction which is parallel (and anti-parallel) to the direction of energy transport. The animation above depicts a sound wave as a longitudinal wave. But in mediums which are fluid (e.g., gases and liquids), sound waves can only be longitudinal. In solids, sound can exist as either a longitudinal or a transverse wave. These regions are transported through the surrounding air, carrying the sound signal from one location to another. As the tines continue to vibrate, an alternating pattern of high and low pressure regions are created. ![]() The high pressure regions are known as compressions and the low pressure regions are known as rarefactions. As the tine then moves inward from its usual position, air surrounding the tine expands this produces a low pressure region next to the tine. As a tine stretches outward from its usual position, it compresses surrounding air molecules into a small region of space this creates a high pressure region next to the tine. The back and forth vibration of the tines produce disturbances of surrounding air molecules. When the tuning fork is hit with a rubber hammer, the tines begin to vibrate. The fork consists of a handle and two tines. Whether it be the sound of a person's voice, the sound of a piano, the sound of a trombone or the sound of a physics book slamming to the floor, the source of the sound is always a vibrating object.Ī tuning fork serves as a useful illustration of how a vibrating object can produce sound. Sound waves are produced by vibrating objects. Transmission Won’t Stay In Gear: Have you ever put your vehicle into gear and then it won’t move? You always just expect your car to start moving the moment you put it into drive. You could be facing a transmission repair if you don’t fix this problem when it first occurs. The fluid is used to lubricate these parts and cool them off when they get hot. Your transmission will overheat if the transmission fluid can’t reach the other working parts. If you let this go on for too long, your transmission could overheat and damage other parts of the system. You could have a transmission fluid leak somewhere within your system. Shifting Gears: Does it take a while for your car to get into gear? This could be alerting you that you have a transmission issue. Eventually, this will lead to worse problems and you will need to repair your transmission. This can cause wear and tear on your entire transmission system. This could occur because your transmission fluid is too low or a lack of maintenance. If this happens to you when you are driving, there is an issue with your transmission and you need to get it fixed as soon as possible. It might also make a whining noise when this happens. The purpose of ‘The Dead of Night’ case you may have played in the demo is to teach the player the mechanics within a scripted mission, before letting them off the leash for the game’s core immersive, non-scripted, sandbox experience. I hope that makes sense.Īlso for the purpose of expectations, I wanted to let you know that the game doesn’t currently feature a story thread of missions beyond those featured in the demo. To speak openly and honestly with you, it makes me so much more comfortable knowing that I’ll be able to identify any of these unusual issues and react to them during Early Access, rather than have players discover them in what is considered to be a ‘final’ release. Speak to any developer and they will always tell you that a game is never finished, but with the breadth and (often unpredictable!) nature of Shadows of Doubt’s layers of AI, it’s particularly true. Secondly, it helps me respond to bugs and unusual edge case issues that, given the massive scope of the game and nature of its systems, I fully expect to be unearthed for the first time at launch. As a bonus, it also means that we get more critical and constructive feedback from players who are passionate about the game during active development, which is really useful for further improving the overall experience. It was always a goal of mine to develop post-release content for the game, but launching into Early Access means I can bring that new content directly into the pre-1.0 roadmap, meaning there’ll now be even more for players to discover in the initial base game when the full version launches (and Early Access players will of course get this content for free as it’s added to the game). However, there are some key things that launching in Early Access allows for, not least of which being more content. Both myself and the publisher are confident in the overall quality, breadth of content and playability of Shadows of Doubt’s Early Access release. The game is in a very advanced state of development - while there are plans for new content and further optimisations, the game is functionally complete with a full suite of features, cases, content and a complete Sandbox Mode, beyond what you may usually expect from an Early Access title. Being open and transparent, we’ve had a lot of serious discussions about how and when to launch the game. I can’t believe I finally get to say it! Shadows of Doubt will be in your hands in just a few short weeks, and I couldn’t be more excited for everyone to step into the role of detective and explore the city streets very soon.īut of course, elephant in the room, why Early Access? As many of you know, Shadows of Doubt has been in development for many years, and so we didn’t take the decision to launch into Early Access lightly.
